Significant Changes to an approved animal protocol require submission of a Modification Form to the Yale University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee for review and approval prior to implementation.
Minor changes should be reported to the IACUC but do not require review and approval prior to implementation.
Examples:

Significant Changes
to Protocols include but are not limited to the following. For additional
clarification, contact the IACUC Office at 785-5992.

adding a new procedure; |
 |
switching from nonsurvival to survival surgery; |
 |
increasing the degree of invasiveness of a procedure or discomfort to an animal; |
 |
changing the species or the number of animals to be used; |
 |
changing the anesthetic agent(s), or changing the adminstration ( ie dose, frequency, route) |
 |
changing the adminstration ( ie dose, frequency, route) or withholding of analgesics, |
 |
changing the method(s) of euthanasia |
 |
changing the duration, frequency, or number of procedures performed on an animal. |
 |
changing the personnel involved in animal procedures maybe considered significant. Please contact an IACUC Administrator for assistance in determining the significance of the proposed change. |
