Necropsy Requirements

Federal regulations require that the Attending Veterinarian at a research facility provide adequate veterinary care.  A component of that requirement includes the performance of necropsies (appropriate post-mortem examination), at the discretion of the Attending Veterinarian to determine the cause of animal death or disease.

Necropsy Policy

Investigators must cooperate fully with requests from Veterinary Clinical Services (VCS) for access to appropriate tissues in a state, fresh or suitably fixed, for the purpose of performing an informative, timely necropsy.  Failure to do so will result in the immediate suspension of the protocol under which the work with the particular animal was conducted.
