Deadlines for Expiring Protocols
Locate the expiration date for your protocol in the right column. The protocol submission deadline in the middle column of that row is the deadline for submitting a renewal application for your protocol. If the renewal application is not received by this submission deadline, the IACUC will not guarantee that it will be reviewed and approved prior to the expiration of the current protocol.
If your protocol expires prior to approval of the renewal application, you will be required to stop all work involving animals and separate all breeding pairs. Animals will be transferred by YARC on a fee-for-service to the University Holding Protocol, where they will remain until the protocol is approved. During their time on the Holding Protocol, any animal-related expenses cannot be charged to sponsored awards; thus investigators will be required to provide YARC with an alternate account for all charges.
Submission Instructions
Protocol applications must be submitted electronically as a single .pdf document to the IACUC e-mail address at iacuc@yale.edu by 5 pm on the deadline day to ensure their review at the next scheduled IACUC meeting. Protocols received after the deadline may be held until the next month's meeting.
Notification
Following Committee review, the PI will be notified via email of any revisions or clarifications needed before the protocol can be approved. When the protocol is approved, the PI will receive a copy of the final version of the protocol with the dates for which the approval is valid. Research cannot begin, nor can any animals be ordered, until the protocol has been approved by the IACUC.
